Inotec Solutions and AmbaSat Secure ESA ARTES Funding to Develop Rapidly Deployable “Nomadic Multi-Orbit” Communications System
North East technology firms Inotec Solutions Ltd and AmbaSat Ltd have secured support under the European Space Agency (ESA) ARTES 4.0 Technologies and Products programme for the development of the Nomadic Multi-Orbit Demonstrator.
The €558,000 co funded, project, supported with UK backing, will focus on the development and demonstration of a rapidly deployable communications system designed to improve resilience, continuity and operational flexibility where conventional terrestrial connectivity is limited, disrupted or unavailable.
Simon land, Director and Co-Founder of Inotec Solutions ltd, said:
“Being chosen to undertake this project by The UK Space agency and The European Space agency is an honour. We have been supported by a number of North East agencies in preparing the bid. Innovation and future engineering is endemic in the North East. This project demonstrates that the North East is a location that has a great future in the space industry going forward.
Martin Platt, CEO and Co-Founder of AmbaSat Ltd, said:
“This is a positive step for both AmbaSat and Inotec. It is a welcome vote of confidence in two small North East Space Technology companies and gives us the opportunity to develop something practical and commercially relevant in an area where resilience is becoming increasingly important.”
Addressing the need for resilient connectivity
Modern governments, emergency services and commercial organisations are increasingly reliant on continuous internet access and cloud-based systems. At the same time, terrestrial communications infrastructure is becoming more vulnerable to disruption, whether through severe weather, power loss, accidental damage or other failures.
The Nomadic Multi-Orbit Demonstrator is intended to address these challenges through a deployable communications platform capable of restoring and maintaining connectivity in temporary, remote or high-risk operating environments.
A practical multi-bearer demonstrator
The project brings together Inotec’s ruggedised deployable communications platform expertise with AmbaSat’s intelligent gateway and orchestration technology.
The aim is to develop a flexible and resilient communications demonstrator capable of:
The system is being developed with deployment simplicity and operational resilience in mind, with the intention that it can be used in scenarios where rapid restoration of communications is important.
Commercial and operational relevance
The demonstrator is being developed with potential applications in sectors that require reliable connectivity in off-grid, temporary or high-demand environments. These include emergency response, critical infrastructure, local authority operations, events, hospitality, and rural or agricultural deployment scenarios.
Following development, the integrated system will be taken through field verification and environmental testing to assess its performance in realistic operating conditions before wider engagement with government and commercial stakeholders.
