Modern organisations increasingly depend on online services, cloud platforms and reliable communications for day-to-day operations.

Severe weather, infrastructure failure and unexpected incidents can reduce the availability of terrestrial networks at precisely the point they are most needed. Remote locations and temporary operations can present the same problem for a different reason: suitable connectivity may simply not be available.

Resilient Multicom is being developed as a deployable communications platform that brings together terrestrial and satellite networks to provide alternative communications paths when reliance on a single network is not enough.

Resilient Multicom brings together multiple communications technologies within a single deployable platform.

Satellite bearers in Low Earth Orbit and Geostationary Orbit complement available terrestrial networks. The platform can then provide local connectivity through services including Ethernet, Wi-Fi and private 5G.

At the core of the system, established routing technology handles network traffic and bearer failover, while the AmbaSat Gateway provides the supervisory and orchestration layer above it.

AmbaSat is developing the Gateway and associated interface and control functions for Resilient Multicom.

The architecture deliberately separates network routing from system supervision.

The Peplink MBX provides WAN/LAN routing, standard network services and bearer failover execution. Above it, the AmbaSat Gateway maintains a wider view of system state, bringing together monitoring information, orchestration policy and operational evidence.

This allows the Gateway to understand what communications resources are available, determine the appropriate action and request changes through the routing platform while maintaining a record of what happened and why.

The evidence trail is being treated as a core part of verification rather than simply a diagnostic log. Integration testing is intended to demonstrate both system behaviour and the evidence behind that behaviour.

No single communications bearer can be assumed to provide the right service in every location or operational situation.

Resilient Multicom is therefore designed to combine LEO, GEO and terrestrial connectivity, allowing available communications systems to be used and prioritised according to operational requirements.

Rather than replacing terrestrial communications, satellite connectivity provides additional paths where terrestrial networks are unavailable, overloaded or disrupted.

The platform is designed for remote monitoring and management, allowing communications services to be deployed where conventional infrastructure is unavailable or where additional resilience is required.

The system concept includes remote configuration and management, with the deployable platform intended to operate with minimal intervention once established at a site.

Development programme

Developing and validating
a deployable resilient
communications platform.

Resilient Multicom is being developed through the European Space Agency ARTES 4.0 programme by Inotec Solutions and AmbaSat.

The project began in March 2026 and has progressed through system definition, equipment selection, software development and platform development.

The AmbaSat Gateway architecture and principal Gateway/router boundaries are now defined for integration testing. Verification is progressing from component-level development towards integrated testing with the router, representative communications bearers, interface functions and wider platform.

The activity is ongoing. Demonstration, testing and validation with prospective users form part of the programme leading towards final reporting planned for March 2027.

Verification

From component development
to integrated verification.

Resilient Multicom is more than a connectivity demonstration. The programme is also establishing how system behaviour can be verified and evidenced.

For the AmbaSat elements, current verification activity covers the supervisory architecture, Gateway-to-router monitoring and control, bearer-state awareness, prioritisation and failover behaviour, and the logging of decisions, alarms, operator actions and recovery events.

Remaining platform-dependent interfaces are being closed as representative bearer equipment, power controls and final platform interfaces become available.
